Second intersessional meeting of the Conference on preparations for the special session of the General Assembly against corruption

In furtherance to resolution 73/191 of the United Nations General Assembly, wherein it has decided to convene a “Special session of the General Assembly against corruption”, in the first half of 2021 on challenges and measures to prevent and combat corruption and strengthen international cooperation, the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) organized two days virtual conference called “Intersessional meeting of the Conference of the State Parties on preparations for the special session of the General Assembly against corruption”.

The two days meeting is also being conducted on the virtual platforms and is participated by the delegates from the State Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC). Bhutan is being represented by two-member delegation led by Commissioner Jamtsho, Anti-Corruption Commission in the virtual meeting. 

The United Nations General Assembly is expected to adopt a concise and action-oriented political declaration, agreed upon in advance by consensus through intergovernmental negotiations under the auspices of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption. This conference is geared towards providing substantive expertise and technical support in adopting the political declaration. To this end, the conference discussed on three broad topics, namely: (1) denying safe heavens to corruption offenders and their proceeds of crime; (2) challenges in identifying, tracing and freezing proceeds of corruption and possible solutions; and (3) Optimizing cooperation and assistance mechanisms.
