The Regional Seminar on Government Incentives for Corporate Anti-Corruption Compliance has been a resounding success, fostering meaningful collaboration between diverse stakeholders from across the Asia-Pacific region. The collective participation of international organizations, regional counterparts, law/policy makers, executive bodies, regulatory and enforcement agencies, corporations, private sector, and civil society demonstrated a shared commitment to combating corruption.
Key discussions highlighted the importance of international standards and guides such as the UNCAC, Anti-Bribery Convention, 2024 Resource Guide, among others, which provide a strong foundation for fostering ethical conduct in both the public and private sectors. Furthermore, government incentives, including tangible benefits like tax breaks and intangible recognition, were also emphasized to promote responsible business practices. It was underscored that these incentives must be supported by a strong legal framework, with balanced enforcement to ensure accountability. The seminar highlightedthe importance of trust in fostering effective anti-corruption measures. Trust between businesses, governments, and stakeholders were highlighted as a key to building credibility and ethical cultures within organizations. The discussions also pointed to the growing involvement of civil society and the private sector in advocating for integrity with innovative solutions.
The deliberations over the past three days emphasized the critical role businesses play in promoting integrity, and how multi-stakeholder cooperation is essential to achieving a fair, transparent, and competitive economic environment. This seminar embodied the essence of “Fighting Corruption is a Shared Responsibility.” The seminar concluded on 27 September 2024.
