Message from ACC Chairperson on International Anti-Corruption Day 2016

Bhutan joins the International community in observing the 13th International Anti-Corruption Day on 9th December 2016 on the theme “Corruption: An Impediment to the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Promoting peaceful and inclusive societies, providing access to justice for all, building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels is at the core of Sustainable Development. Today, let us renew our determination to stand in solidarity against the obstacle in realizing the SDGs and the social menace – corruption.

In observing the Day, ACC would like to humbly felicitate His Majesty The King on the auspicious occasion of 10 years of benevolent reign marked with extraordinary and exemplary leadership, laying foundation for a strong and vibrant democracy. We remain grateful to His Majesty the King for the anti-corruption drive in the country. Today, anti-corruption is on the top national agenda, and we are committed to tackling corruption in our society.

The fight against corruption is easier said than done. It needs collective effort to effect systemic and behavioral change. It needs much more solidarity and commitment from all quarters, especially from people who can make a difference. We need to foster ethical practices, and uphold transparency, accountability and integrity in our conduct, actions and dealings.

On this International Anti-Corruption Day, let us denounce corruption and stand united in our fight against corruption for development, peace and security. Let us all redouble our efforts in making Bhutan a happy, harmonious and corruption free society!
